Carparama (a.k.a. Carpainter, Duckarama, and enough other aliases to fill a phone book) stepped up to the Mailbag plate not long after his Radio PSI premiere. Though his stint was brief, his “throwback” prompts encouraged reflection on the games we knew and loved and produced some humorous “what-ifs” (see: Making the Band). He revived the co-responder system for his last update before leaving to manage the omnipresent “real-life” responsibilities.

The prerelease hype surrounding MOTHER 3 brought a new wave of activity to starmen.net, prompting SimonBob to revive Mailbag once again as a platform for speculation and opinions. Following the game's release, Mailbag veteran EBounding quietly returned as Western fans played the waiting game. There was plenty to occupy the fanbase in the meantime: starmen.net became the primary resource on MOTHER 3's Japanese release, work began on shiny new walkthrough sections, and fans old and new revisited Earthbound during the latest (and final) EBFGP. Nonetheless, this “era” of Mailbag does a good job of representing the tension growing in the MOTHER fanbase at the time, and has preserved a few of starmen.net's users' earliest reactions to MOTHER 3 before the fan translation.

March of 2002. EBounding had long since traded up to the more relaxing Polls job, the great Mother 3 Petition was gearing up, and some other stuff was happening. What better time for StarmanDX to take on the Mailbag mantle? He brought in the Letter of the Week award, which really upped the literacy rate. It also turned a lot of letters into verbose epistles, which is a jolly good way to bother modern Mailbag staffers (more reading = more work.)
