Earthbound Beta
Ever since the discovery of the Scaraba/Dungeon/Giygas Debug Mode, people have been scrambling for answers to a question: what could have been?
To explain this, I may have to go off-topic. In the releases of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, developers had to remove some things from the game that were there in earlier production. Namely, some levels and graphics, The early production game, or Beta, was found with the levels intact (mostly), but glitchy.
Now, there are a few nutty things in Earthbound that may have been in a beta. For instance, when you walk through walls inside the Twoson-Threed tunnel while ghosts are there, and go down from the door to Threed, you hear a weird techno-version of the store song. But when you use the Sound Stone, you appear in the Fourside department store. Now, the techno-thing reminds me of Moonside. Was the store originally supossed to be accessed in Moonside, with a diffirent music? Possible.
Then there's the spot above the meteor site in Onett. You hear Buzz Buzz's noise, but when you use the Sound Stone, the game locks up. Was there a level outside Onett, but with Buzz Buzz playable? Well, it may be related to something that happens in the Debug mode in Scaraba. I was messing around, and suddenly I was teleported to Toto in Summers. Buzz Buzz shows up- while Ness and the rest of the party walks around- and begins the speech as if he had just come out of the meteor. But then, I hear the phone noise and the game locks up. The noise may have something to do with Tony calling for your name. Now, that point above the meteor may have something to do with that scene. Was Buzz Buzz supossed to stay with you all game in the Beta?
Now, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was dissected in and out by hackers, and the whole thing was almost totally figured out. Prehaps the way for us to solve this mystery would be to get some l337 haxx0rz of our own...?
