Ness and Paula: The True Motive
I was /msg'ing Falcon24 earlier today, and I told him he should give suggestions for aspiring writers. He told me he did, and I journeyed over to www.Starmen.net. I cruised the articles browsing for Falc's article, and let me tell you. This "Falcon24," person has no life. Nor do I, but, uh.... I'm cool like that. He isn't.
It isn't a "love," scenario. It is a modern cliché. EVERY big-time RPG has some kind of love interest. And Why? Who wouldn't want to date the protector/victor of the Earth? You would be a freakin' King or Queen for that matter. Let us view it through the scope of Paula. I call this unique style of writing, "PaulaVision." "Oh, that Ness is cute, and that Jeff stinks, and Poo...is 13 and bald. Oh, it looks like Ness is about to save the world. Casey Toner is one heck of a writer.... Hey, I wonder if he would like to walk me home? I WILL BE THE QUEEN OF THE WORLD! HA HA! "
She doesn't LOVE Ness. LOVE is a powerful word. She is greedy. RPG characters are greedy, its nature. Stopping evil? Yeah right. It’s about earning money, getting babes, and gaining power. If Cloud weren’t to hook up with Tifa by the end of FF 7, would he risk crazy mind trips, and the threat of getting blown up? I doubt it. He was greedy. Besides, if Tifa didn't work out...Yuffie.
But Ness knows about Paula. He knows her evil schemes. And, he doesn’t care. Heck, once they get married, all he will do is use her for social status, power, and those remarkable peanut butter sandwiches. He is only 13 years of age, and he already has plans of world conquest. Kids these days. Does this remind you of anything? Bill Clinton, I’m pointing in your direction.
