Earthbound 0 and Mother differences

First off, I would like to thank Kindar Spirit for inspiring me to do this. I know she has one on her site, but she was missing things here and there. Anyways, here comes the article:

Probably most of us on starmen.net haved played Earthbound 0. Now here's the next question, how many of you played Mother for Famicom? I have played and beat it. I've been wanting to make an article about the differences, but now I actually have the time. Now we can start off with some differences we probably already know.

Yes, we probably know about the infamous Smokey the Smokin' crow. In Mother, the crow enemy was holding a cigarette. Nintendo probably took this out because they didn't want kids in America to start smoking because they saw a crow smoke. One thing you may know about is the run option. In Mother, you couldn't run. In Earthbound 0, you can. They added this feature maybe because Nintendo thought Americans grow impatient and may get angry about how time consuming walking around could be. Maybe, Shigasto Itoi thought Mother wasn't complete and needed improvement and added in all the stuff in EarthBound 0. In the following paragraph, there will be game images differences.

Okay, I already mentioned Smokey, but did you know about how they changed Gang and Nasty zombie's image? In Mother, they were covered in blood on their shirts, most likely from gun bullets. In Earthbound 0, the blood was removed. Why? Probably Nintendo thought about the younger audiences and the hemophobiacs (afraid of blood). Then there is the Shroudley enemy. Same thing, in Mother he is dripping with blood and making puddles. In Earthbound 0, there is no blood. The reason probably is the same reason for the Gang and Nasty zombie blood. Did you know in Mother, Teddy is holding a knife when in battle with him? Nintendo probably took this out because of the thought of being stabbed with a knife may give people the chills. Also, the B.B. Gang members are smoking cigarettes. They took out the cigarettes because they didn't want kids smoking. In the next paragraph, there will be differences with the maps in Mother.

Okay, you know the magicant cave in EB0? In Mother, it is totally different. It's more like a maze than a one way path. The Spookane mansion is bigger and more confusing. Believe me, this is harder than Duncan's Factory in Mother. Also, the path to the Mt. Itoi caves is different. It's kind of like a spiral instead of a straight path. Mt. Itoi is different as well. The cave containing all the tubes is before Giegue's cave. Also, as soon as you get EVE's melody (7th), you are instantly transported in front of Queen Mary and she knows the whole song. Strange because you never got the 8th melody. You are transported in front of the XX grave. As soon as you go into the cave, you're in the battle with Giegue. After the battle, there is no ending, instead, the credits start rolling. There is no Dad at the end either. By the way, the map is an item and the town names are different:

Earthbound 0- Mother

Podunk- Mother's Day
Merrysville- Thanksgiving
Union Station- Santa Claus Station
Reindeer- Reindeer
Spookane- Halloween
Snowman- Snowman
Youngtown- Easter
Ellay- Valentine

This paragraph will discuss the crosses. Nintendo took them all out because they didn't want to offend any religion. There were crosses in Mother, but not one single one in EB0 (except on the hospitals). In the graveyard, the tall skinny graves were originally crosses. In the churches, instead of stained glass on the head wall, there is a big wooden cross. On the caskets in the graveyard, there is a cross. On top of the churches, instead of a slanted roof, there is a cross on top. When a flying man died, there was originally a cross, but in EB0, there is a grave. The next paragraph will discuss little things.

In Mother, Ninten's mom's hair is short. There are no cool rainbow lines when you lear a melody in Mother. The yellow stripe on Ninten's shirt isn't there in Mother. If I remember correctly, I think there is mention of a strip club in Mother. The ATM man in EB0 is a healer in Mother. Do you know the sprite of the lady with pigtails and glasses? In Mother, she wears her hair down. On the menu of Mother, there is only 4 options. Mother will display state if you press the B button. To view the map, you need to use the item. The map item replaces the bread in Ninten's basement. When you are picking names, at the end, it will ask you your message speed. There is only Fast, Medium, and Slow (In EB0 there is numbers).

Well, in conclusion, Mother can be really different from EB0 in many ways. Please note that you will NOT see the differences if you get Mother on GBA. You need to play the one for Famicom. The GBA Mother is only EB0 in Japanese. I hoped I informed you and made this article interesting. Also, keep on EarthBounding!
