Mother Through Time
If anyone has scene the original batch of Mother 3 screenshots, they'd be an idiot not to notice that it takes place in the past. Stretching forests, totally wooden buildings, and dirt roads appear. There's also a lack of certain automated vehicles and electronics. Yet in a few design sketches and screenshots, a Ness-looking character zooming past in a hovercraft, a police interrogation room, a modern day beach scene, and Flint confronting guys in sneakers. Any EarthBound fan already knew that the plot was divided into twelve "chapters" which each occurred out of chronological order and with different main characters. At first, I thought that this meant that you would do something, then find out why, just adding confusion and possibly replay value.
But, of course, I'm an idiot. Obviously what happens is that you start out as Flint, trying to save his family and his town from destruction from the UFO (i.e., Heavily Armed Pokey). He gets a bunch of pigs to worship him as a god, maybe, and build certain high tech devices for him, like that huge pipeline in the forest. Well, Flint goes to rescue him, but doesn't get so lucky right away... and that's the end of that chapter. Flash forward to 199X, or maybe 199X+3 (or 200X-7 where X > 6) or something like that (well, that old Nintendo Power issue did say that Dr. Andonuts was most likely going to be in it), and Jeff discovers that Pokey has emerged from the depths of time. Thus he sends Ness, in a hovercraft like timemachine, back to kick butt like Paula knows he can.
Obviously, it won't be so easy. Things happen. Maybe Ryukka and his brother sneak into the time machine and get lost somewhere; hopefully we'll see Paula, Jeff, and Poo; Duster is supposed to come in sometime; I'd like to see a big godzilla looking monster (with Pokey's head peeking out of the top) go on a rampage over Eagleland; and probably a lot more different times than just 199X or whenever it is that Pokey lands. And don't forget that Pokey's 'UFO' can time travel, too, leading for a pig kicking brawl through time.
