I'm not sure if there's ever been fanart of this character before or not...
At any rate, I decided to take some liberties with this drawing, as I was basing it on the game sprite of the Mother 1 character... and it looks vaguely like the character is wearing his underwear outside of his clothes. The idea made me laugh, and I thought it appropriately EarthBoundy, so I just went with it. I've never really been able to nail down a good way to make this particular character look very good. Tried to go with an "anvil" type shape that some stormclouds tend to get, but still wasn't very successful. Ah well. perhaps someday.

I'd debated for a while on how to tackle the Soul-Consuming Flame, and finally decided on fewer flames and sort of inner glow. I was thinking of actual images I'd seen before of lava flows, with flames poking up at their surface.
Once I'd finished the character itself though, I knew it needed SOME sort of background. I started out with the floor, which I wanted to have a dry, cracked look. I started out haphazardly not expecting much, but like the effect that I was able to get with what I did. Above him, I tried depicting a smokey, dark Fire Springs. |
